My Help Comes from the Lord - Psalm 121

A song of ascents.

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills-- where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip-- he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD watches over you-- the LORD is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD will keep you from all harm-- he will watch over your life; 8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121
In the busyness that defines our lives I've paused much recently to reflect on listening to God's still small voice. In many of life's highways, God will always meet me where I am-whether that be through a teaching moment with my students, an argument with a family member or friend, a timely injury (to say slow down Yee!), the sudden waking up in the middle of the night, a dream, a glance with another while on the bus, through the beauty of His creation, an encouraging word, or the words spoken through a sermon.

God continues to remind me through each of these events to humble myself and to seek Him at the throne of grace.  God wants me to pray without ceasing. He wants me and others to experience power through prayer.  He desires my daily worship to be breath breathed of words and conversation with Him. Recently, I have had several restless nights filled with unsettled sleep.  I have been suddenly awoken in the wee morning hours not knowing why...
After speaking to a dear sister, I was reminded to pray and that's exactly what I did when it occurred the second time. Just yesterday, I was suddenly struck by back pain due to a harsh sneeze.  It's forced me to cancel plans and to stay home to rest, quiet myself down and to contemplate. As I seek clarity and guidance I pray that I would continue to pray without ceasing and to grow in faithfulness in the awareness that God grants peace and mercy.
It doesn't matter how God comes to speak to you, whether with a loud and clear bang, or with the still small voice, slow down the pace of your life to listen and to seek Him. God will meet you in your corner of the world. His love is the same yesterday, today and forevermore. To God be the glory, the praise and the honour forever and ever. Amen.
